Change shutter speed? Nikon Coolpix S210?

I have the Nikon Coolpix S210, and I hate using it because it always takes blurry pictures. I looked at the manual and I still can figure out how to change the shutter speed. Supposedly it%26#039;s possible to have one from 4- 1/2000 (insert unit), but I just can%26#039;t find the place in the settings to change it. Even if you don%26#039;t have the S210, please tell me what you know! Thank you!!!!|||Sounds like you need to attend a class, and read a few books. It would make a big difference to your photos to understand the principles.

I just checked out the specs on your little camera. Being a tiny little P%26amp;S, that one doesn%26#039;t seem to have any manual controls, the best you can do is try and make friends with the shooting modes.

But still...... learning about all this would help you heaps!|||If only we could hear the tone of voice and see body language in a written message. That answer was so totally NOT condescending - it was honest, yet kind advice, nothing less.

How do you change the Shutter Speed on a Sonny Cyber-shot DSC-W290?

We%26#039;re starting light graffiti in my photography class which requires a slow shutter speed. I already looked through the manual and looked around all over the camera%26#039;s menu. If I can%26#039;t manually change it, is there another way to slow down the shutter speed?|||Sorry, but that camera is in no way, shape, or form suitable for a photography class. Did not your instructor tell you that you would need a camera in which you have control of functions such as shutter and aperture? You are either going to need a more sophisticated camera, or get into another class. You can find 35mm SLR film cameras for very little cost now. These are the cameras typically required for photography classes.

steve|||You can%26#039;t.. There is no Aperture Priority, nor Shutter Priority on this camera. The longest shutter speed it has on it%26#039;s auto modes is 2 secs. It is a point and shoot camera in every sense of the word.

.|||Use programmed auto settings. There is an option of %26#039;%26#039;twilight%26#039;%26#039;. Your camera can go down to 1%26#039;%26#039; (one second) on auto , and 1%26#039;%26#039; is an eternity in photography.

How do i change the shutter speed in the pentax k 100d super dslr?

when i try to take images past 35 mm my camera is causing the images to blacken the image and only half of it comes out. is there a way to change the shutter speed|||Hi Drift King,

To change the shutter speed on the K100D Super, move the Exposure Mode Dial (on the top left of the camera) to %26quot;Tv%26quot;. Then, roll the command wheel (top-right of the back of the camera) back and forth until the desired shutter speed appears on the top LCD, such as %26quot;TV 125%26quot;.

You can also change the shutter speed in manual exposure mode, which allows you to change both the shutter speed and the aperture. On the Exposure Mode Dial, manual exposure is %26quot;M%26quot;.

However, I don%26#039;t know how changing the shutter speed when shooting %26quot;past 35mm%26quot; would help with half the image being dark. Is it possible that what is actually happening is that the lens%26#039; hood is casting a shadow from the pop-up flash when you zoom past 35mm? Does the problem happen if you shoot in good light without the pop-up flash? If the problem is a shadow cast by the lens hood from the pop-up flash, I would suggest just taking off the hood off when you must shoot in those conditions (but do keep the hood for other conditions).

Good luck,

Greg|||The Pentax K100D is not much different than your old Pentax 35 mm. Changing your shutter speed should be very straight forward. If all else fails, find your owners manual and look it up. It cannot be that hard.

How do i Change the shutter speed on my Kodak Easy Share M340?

I don%26#039;t know what else you need to know? Its not in the manual how to change the shutter speed and I was wondering if anyone else knew how to change it. It does not have a dial on top of it and i cant find it in the menu.|||You can%26#039;t manually change the shutter speed because our camera is a point %26amp; shoot camera which gives you no manual control over your shutter speeds and/or aperture.

The options you do have is to use one of the various Scene modes. For instance, if you select %26#039;Children%26#039;, the camera will try to stop the action by applying a faster shutter speed (this is for bright light conditions only) or if you select %26#039;Fireworks%26#039; the camera will select a slower shutter speed (this is only good to use in low light). Look up Scene Modes in your Manual.

You also have a dedicated Sports button on your Mode dial for faster shutter speeds (works best in good light) and you also have a Long Time Exposure mode for exposures of 0.5 to 4 seconds.

Read your manual...again|||that is because it does not have control of shutter speed.

How do I change the shutter speed on a Nikon D40?

I%26#039;ve done my absolute best to make sense of the manual, but I just can%26#039;t comprehend it%26#039;s technical terms. I have figured out that in S mode you use the little dial thing to change the aperture which changes the shutter speed. However I was hoping there was a way I could increase the shutter speed even in low light without the picture being completely black.|||Hi Julie,

Adjusting the settings is always a compromise. Changing one setting will affect another. To get a fast shutter speed in darkness, you will need a low (wide) aperture and a higher ISO. Having the camera in Shutter Priority mode (%26quot;S%26quot;) and turning the dial should give you control over the exact shutter speed. The other settings (Aperture, Exposure) should adjust as much as they can. Remember to turn the ISO level up.

I hope this helps.

How to change the shutter speed on a Nikon CoolPix2500?

My mom gave me her digital camera, but she cant find the manual. How do I change the shutter speed to make it snap faster?|||You can%26#039;t.

What you%26#039;re experiencing is shutter lag and it can%26#039;t be made any faster.

if you%26#039;re using flash then turn it off.

|||I don%26#039;t normally answer questions with a link, but in this case it makes sense.

From your question though, it%26#039;s obvious that you don%26#039;t understand the purpose of using a faster shutter speed but that%26#039;s a lengthy and detailed answer to a different question like this one: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a> , but you can search Y/A for other similar questions yourself.

How do you change the shutter speed in a Sony Cybershot T700?

I own a Sony Cybershot T700 and I don%26#039;t know how to change the shutter speed of it.|||This camera doesn%26#039;t have any manual or semi-manual exposure modes so you can%26#039;t manually set your shutter speed or your aperture. What you will have to do is learn how to use the scene modes to your advantage. They are designed to help you capture the scene as you want. So if you want to freeze action, you would use Hi-speed shutter. If you want to have some motion blur you might try landscape. Just test the settings to find out what each one does best and read your manual for an explanation of each.

Next time you are in the market for a compact digital, look for one with shutter and aperture priority or manual exposure modes.

http://www.dpreview.com/news/0808/080807鈥?/a>|||You can%26#039;t directly change the shutter speed on this camera (like most point and shoot cameras). Choose the right mode and it should make a good guess at the shutter speed needed.|||You have a very slim, great looking, light weight, high megapixel camera with more features than an electric car and you ask for more? Why would you suddenly be concerned with controls at this moment?

No. PnS cameras are designed to look good, not for control. That%26#039;s why everything else is automatic. So your job is just to look good while taking pictures with it.

I don%26#039;t know how to change it on this camera though, help please!|||The S9 doesn%26#039;t have any manual settings for shutter speed. All you can do is adjust the ISO to make the sensor more sensitive, therefore a higher ISO will allow you to take pictures under darker than normal conditions.|||Unfortunately, with that kind of a digital camera you cannot change the shutter speed, since it is not a DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) camera. However, changing the ISO to its highest setting so you can take night pictures with minimal blur is a good option.|||Ask and ye shall receive. Here%26#039;s the official Nikon camera database.

Is it possible to change the shutter speed on a fuji finepx f470?

the images i take are all blurry. even the slightest movement will make everything blur. peoples facial movements, cats passing by, leaves falling, etc. it doen%26#039;t matter how bright or dark the room is. is there a way i can change the shutter speed? or change some other setting to that it won%26#039;t make everything look like a bad acid trip?|||You cannot select your own shutter speed on the F470. The only thing that I can think of is that you are not giving the camera time to lock in the focus.

You need to half-press the shutter button...and wait till the camera beeps or the little focus box turns green...then you can press the button all the way down. But you will also need to keep the camera reasonably steady while doing this.

If you are using AUTO, then most of the time the camera should %26#039;get it right%26#039;, so I don%26#039;t know why every photo would be blurry. Never ever use Digital zoom.

Other than that, try selecting the various scene modes for different situations.

Choose SPORT for moving objects (the camera should apply a faster shutter speed).

Choose PARTY perhaps for indoor low light shots etc. etc.

Good luck...and if you still can%26#039;t get blur free photos, then take it back and see if the dealer can have a look, because the auto focus system might be faulty.

Though the Sony W50 doesn%26#039;t offer any direct manual exposure control, the camera%26#039;s extensive LCD menu system does offer quite a bit of creative control with image contrast, sharpness, and color options.

Further reading on the site led me to this:

High Sensitivity, Twilight, Twilight Portrait, Snow, Beach, Landscape, and Soft Snap modes.

Shutter speeds from 1/1,000 to 1/8 sec in Auto mode; 1/1,000 to one second in Program mode, and 1/1,000 to two seconds in Twilight mode.

So, your best option for low light with no flash would probably be twilight mode. You have an automatic camera. The best you can do is pick a mode to match your scene. If you%26#039;re not sure which to use for a given situation, try a few and see which gives you the best result. Sorry I couldn%26#039;t be more helpful for you.

Change shutter speed on Nokia N95?

I was wondering if it was possible and if so how to change the shutter speed on my nokia n95 (not 8g) phone camera, thanks.|||The short answer is %26quot;no%26quot;,

the long answer:

Both the picture and the video mode have a %26quot;night%26quot; mode which is helpful for a longer exposure in low light

(of course it%26#039;s only one setting, so you will have to hold the phone still for pics and you get slow moving action for video)

The picture mode alone has a %26quot;sports%26quot; Scene mode, so you can effectively speed up the shutter this way.

(The N95 is the best performer I know of in low light, I%26#039;d like to %26#039;upgrade%26#039; but I haven%26#039;t found a better camera/lens combo with comparable video mode)|||Nope. There%26#039;s no way to change the speed of the shutter on the phone or the time it takes for the image processing algorithms to render the captured image to display on the screen. At best, you can make sure you have the most recent firmware installed on your phone. You can check the firmware version by pressing *#0000#. Doing that will display

The firmware version: 30.0.15(N95-1) or 20.2.011(N95-3)

Firmware date: 15-7-08(N95-1) or 13-5-08(N95-3)

Model number: RM 159(N95-1) or RM 160(N95-3)

The only influence you can have on shutter speed (sort of) is to use the sports, kids, or portrait mode to get the fastest shutter speed possible or the night snapshot (yes, even in broad daylight) to get the slowest possible shutter speed.

TIA|||Changing the shutter speed will not help you all that much. What you are experiencing is the dreaded shutter lag...and with older cameras such as yours, this was a real problem.

Newer cameras today, are much more responsive, due to their faster processors.

The best solution for shutter lag...is to half press the shutter button first (to lock in the focus) and then recompose your shot or wait for the right moment...and then press it down all the way. It%26#039;s the auto focus system that is causing the delay.

Anyway, to change the shutter speed on your camera, you have to move the mode dial to A/S/M...

Second, read this book: %26#039;Understanding Exposure%26#039; by Bryan Peterson. You must learn about the Exposure Triangle which consists of ISO/shutter speed/aperture. These are all variables and changing one affects the others.

Its always best to make the ISO a constant (leave it at one setting) as you experiment with the shutter speed and aperture. Having two variables is always easier to deal with. Lets look at an old guide for exposure. Its called the %26quot;Sunny 16 Rule%26quot; and states: %26quot;On a sunny day, set your f-stop (aperture) to f16 and your shutter speed to 1/ISO.%26quot; So if we go out today and its nice and sunny we can use ISO 100, set f16 and use a shutter speed of 1/100 sec. and expect acceptable results. If we make a chart showing the f-stop/shutter speed relationship based on %26quot;Sunny 16%26quot; it will look like this:

ISO 100

f16 @ 1/100 sec.

f11 @ 1/200 sec.

f8 @ 1/400 sec.

f5.6 @ 1/800 sec.

f4 @ 1/1600 sec.

f2.8 @ 1/3200 sec.

See what%26#039;s happening? As we %26quot;open up%26quot; our lens from f16 to f11 our shutter speed increases. Why? Because f11 admits twice as much light as f16. At f8 we admit twice as much light as f11 and our shutter speed increases again.

How to change the shutter speed on Canon Rebel XSI 12 Mega Pixel.?

I need to learn how to slow down the shutter speed, to blur background and create cool affects. How do i change this speed using this camera? (detailed instrustions please) thanks :)|||Flip the control dial on camera from the green box (auto) to the %26quot;M%26quot; or %26quot;S%26quot; mode. M is manual where you will control both the aperture (which can also help with the effects you want) and shutter speed. The %26quot;S%26quot; is shutter priority where you pick the shutter speed and the camera will pick the aperture needed.

There should be another dial by the shutter button, turn this to the left or right to change the shutter speed.

I%26#039;m pretty sure that%26#039;s how it goes, most of my cameras are nikon :)|||I agree that it is annoying when people ask easily solved questions, but Steve P and andy w you dont know my situation, and I recived this camera second handed, meaning my friend bought a new one and gave this one to me! I did not have the manual included! Forgive me for trying to learn.

|||I use Manual mode, if you%26#039;re familiar with how to do that, switch to the %26quot;M%26quot; on the selector dial.

If you want to just decide the shutter speed and let the camera take care of the rest, switch the dial to %26quot;TV.%26quot; That way, the wheel on top will decide your shutter speed and the camera will figure out the aperture from there. If you%26#039;re outside, I recommend shooting at 100 ISO. If you%26#039;re inside, 400 or higher is probably best.

Also, with long exposures, make sure to use a tripod of some sort!|||Have you actually thought to READ THE MANUAL and actually find out how your camera works?|||Why do you expect people to take their time to tell you the same thing that is plainly explained in your camera owners manual? You could have easily found the answer in the time it took to sign on here, post the question, and wait for an answer. I%26#039;m surprised anyone gave you an answer. One of the most aggravating things on this forum is people asking how to do this or that because they are too lazy to bother to find the answer in their own manual.

I will tell you this. A slow shutter speed is NOT going to blur the background. All that is going to do is blur the entire photo if you are hand holding the camera and / or blur any movement in the photo. For a blurred background you need to utilize a wide aperture.

Now come back and ask how to adjust the aperture....

..... sheesh.....

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!|||Yes, the camera can use shutter speeds from 30 sec. up to 1/2000 sec., but you can%26#039;t select them yourself. How do I change shutter speed on my Sony Alpha a200?

I have seen on some websites that it can go all the way to 1/4000 however I can%26#039;t get it past 1/160. Please help?|||Is the flash activated? If flash is activated, it will not go faster than the fastest flash synch speed. Put the flash down, turn the flash off, or change the mode. Put the camera in Manual or Shutter-preferred mode.

As long as it thinks you want flash as your light source, A200 limits the shutter speed based on the flash synch limits. So.

Shut off the external flash, and remove it.

Close the built in flash, and set flash mode to the one with the line through it.

If you have it in one of the user modes that are flash dependent, change that.

How do you change shutter speed and aperture on my camera?

i have a sony cyber shot DSC-W220 and i want to know how to change the shutter speed and aperture so i can do light painitng with it|||Unfortunately you can%26#039;t change the aperture or shutter speed with that camera. If you want a camera with manual controls, then an advanced point-and-shoot or DSLR should fulfill your needs.|||The W220 is a fairly basic point and shoot camera, which means it doesn%26#039;t allow you to manually change your aperture and/or shutter speed. About the best you can probably do (for a longer exposure), is to choose %26#039;Fireworks%26#039; or %26#039;Twilight%26#039; from the Scene Selection modes.

Unfortunately, it%26#039;s minimum shutter is only 1 sec, so your success with light painting will be limited.|||You can light paint with a compact camera, but it%26#039;s not easy. How do you change shutter speed on a canon powershot sd 600?

I need to know if I can change it and how to.|||The SD600 does not have a true manual exposure control where you can set the aperture and shutter speed. It does have scene exposure modes, which are hidden in the menus, which can force the camera to do certain things like choose the fastest shutter speed.

The ELPH series aren%26#039;t the best cameras for changing quickly between scene modes, because they are hidden within a couple of menus. The SD600 does have most of the basic modes including Digital Macro, Portrait, Night Snapshot, Kids %26amp; Pets, Indoor, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks, and Underwater. To get to the special scene modes, though, you have to first hit the Function key, then scroll down to the shooting modes selection, slide over to the right till you get to %26quot;Kids %26amp; Pets,%26quot; and then hit Menu to find the rest.|||The SD series %26quot;Digital Elph%26quot; do not have manual controls. So you do not have direct control over shutter speed. However here are a few tricks you may use and may help your shooting situation.

Bump up the ISO setting to 400-800 (that will force a higher shutter speed)

Keep your zoom at a wider point (rather then zooming in) which will allow more light to comeinto the camera, and thus allow a faster shutter speed)

one final trick use exposure compensation (-1) which may make your image a little lighter, but may force a faster shutter speed)

How would I change the shutter speed on an Olympus E-600 Digital SLR?

How to change shutter speed?

I have a cannon powershot SD400 (digital camera) and i am wondering how to manually change the shutter speed. Also wondering, whenever you see cool pictures of blurred rushing water, is that because of a slow shutter speed? if so, i am wondering how to change the shutter speed to make cool pictures like that.

I would also like to know how to take a picture where the background is all blurry, but the object of the photograph is sharp, like those pictures of flowers that proffesionals take.|||Your camera has a partial Manual mode that lets you pick a %26quot;Long Shutter%26quot; speed through the Menus. You will have to experiment, but this will let you get the rushing water type of shot.

To get the blurred background shot, use the Portrait scene mode in combination with the telephoto end of your zoom. make sure there is a reasonable distance between the subject and the background. To get the flower shot, add the Macro mode setting to the above.

You will have to experiment with both the techniques above. Your camera does not have the full Manual mode capability, so you will have to %26quot;fake it out%26quot;.

If you are truely interested in taking this type of pictures, plan on upgrading your camera at some point to one with more manual controls. (You can get started with something $250 to $400.)

You will also need to read or take classes about photographic techniques.

Good Luck|||Not familiar with the Cannon SD400 but most digitals have a capability to change things regarding how the camera %26quot;sees%26quot; an image. I use a manual setting for my Samsung and Pentax digitals for %26quot;special%26quot; pics and just take them in the normal manner. I get blurred backgrounds and %26quot;movement%26quot; that you seek. Look in the menu for settings that allow you to set the exposure and f-stop, you should be able to do both.|||Yes, that cool effect with the water is done with a longer shutter speed. The thing you need to worry about, though, will be keeping the rest of the picture sharp. Use a tripod!

Your camera%26#039;s manual should tell how you can change your shutter speed (or if you can or not). If you have different modes, look for a shutter priority mode, and experiment with times around a second to half second. You may need to set your ISO higher or use an ND filter to cut some light.

Okay, I read a review of your camera, and it appears you do have a manual mode and your shutter can go slow enough. Remember to set your aperture as small as possible (largest f number) to compensate for having the shutter open.

For your second question, use your macro mode. A wider aperture (smaller f number) will make anything not exactly in the focus zone out of focus.|||I don%26#039;t know how to change the shutter speed, but yes, the blur in water pictures is based on slow shutter speed. I would try 1/60, maybe 1/30--the slower you go, the more blur you%26#039;ll get, but if you go too slow you won%26#039;t be able to tell what the picture%26#039;s of.|||The SD400 is a point %26amp; shoot camera which means it has very limited manual controls (and there%26#039;s only so much you can do with an ultra compact camera).

You can %26#039;force%26#039; the camera to select a different shutter speed or aperture value, by adjusting the exposure compensation or ISO, but you really should learn a little about photography in general first.

To try to get a blurry background as in a %26#039;portrait%26#039;, you should select PORTRAIT in the scene mode (the camera will select a larger aperture for this).

For close up photos of flowers, you need to be using the macro setting.

If you want to select your own shutter speed and aperture, then you will need to buy a camera with full manual controls (such as the Canon A630, A640 or the soon to be released A570 IS).

I believe that%26#039;s a compact point-and-shoot. Am I right?

You should be able to get various shutter speeds depending on the Scene Mode you select (Sports would be fastest).

How to change shutter speed on sony cybershot?

See you|||To be able to change the shutter speed you should have on the Mode Dial a special option for it which is usually the %26quot;S%26quot;. This option you can find in more advance photo cameras like DSLR%26#039;s or you can find it on the new DSC-HX1.
