Attend a class, read some books, read/watch online tutorials.
The major camera manufacturers (like Canon, Nikon, Olympus etc) all have very useful sections on their website for learning about photography.
Understanding at least the basic principles of photography (as well as being familiar with your camera) will enable you to make the most of your gear, and will make a HUGE difference to your images.|||You can%26#039;t. The SD790IS is automatic-only. There is no manual exposure mode or shutter-preferred mode where you can set the shutter speed.

There are many features - but, you have to read the manual.
Any questions - email me.|||TMC is right. You CAN manually set long shutter speeds (1+ seconds, I believe). However, there is no way to set faster shutter speeds.|||it is different on all cameras expecailly cannons because they always change cannons software i suggest the manual or look online.
