How do you change shutter speed?

i have a canon rebel E0S Xsi

i want to play with shutter speed

but dont know HOW to change it|||First, READ %26amp; STUDY the Owner%26#039;s Manual and learn how to use your camera.

Second, read this book: %26#039;Understanding Exposure%26#039; by Bryan Peterson. You must learn about the Exposure Triangle which consists of ISO/shutter speed/aperture. These are all variables and changing one affects the others.

Its always best to make the ISO a constant (leave it at one setting) as you experiment with the shutter speed and aperture. Having two variables is always easier to deal with. Lets look at an old guide for exposure. Its called the %26quot;Sunny 16 Rule%26quot; and states: %26quot;On a sunny day, set your f-stop (aperture) to f16 and your shutter speed to 1/ISO.%26quot; So if we go out today and its nice and sunny we can use ISO 100, set f16 and use a shutter speed of 1/100 sec. and expect acceptable results. If we make a chart showing the f-stop/shutter speed relationship based on %26quot;Sunny 16%26quot; it will look like this:

ISO 100

f16 @ 1/100 sec.

f11 @ 1/200 sec.

f8 @ 1/400 sec.

f5.6 @ 1/800 sec.

f4 @ 1/1600 sec.

f2.8 @ 1/3200 sec.

See what%26#039;s happening? As we %26quot;open up%26quot; our lens from f16 to f11 our shutter speed increases. Why? Because f11 admits twice as much light as f16. At f8 we admit twice as much light as f11 and our shutter speed increases again.

As you can see by now there%26#039;s more involved than just playing around with the shutter speed.|||You can set you dial to Tv.

Change shutter speed as you wish.

Read the manual!|||RTFM.

Enough said.|||once you set to Tv on the dial, you then use the %26quot;wheel%26quot; to change the shutter speed... the slower the shutter speed, the more shake you are likely to add to shots... so use a tripod... and maybe an ND filter if you are shooting in daylight...
