How can I change the shutter speed on a Canon XSi? ?

Trying to take a picture of the moon and I need to get a faster shutter speed so it doesn't blur. Thanks!

Put on the longest lens you've got zoom all the way in.

Set camera on M (manual exposure)

Set shutter speed to 1/ISO (if you're using ISO 200, set it to 1/200) by turning the main dial

Set aperture to f/16 by holding AV/comp button and turning the main dial

Put camera on a tripod

Use remote control or cable release if available, otherwise self-timer

Shoot.

This is a starting set for you based on sunny f/16 rule (to shoot object lit by direct sunlight, use 1/ISO and f/16 if no metering available), if moon comes out too dim, open up aperture (smaller numbers) or use longer shutter (1/smaller_number). If too bright, close down, or use shorter shutter.

Good luck,

LEM.

Have you read your camera manual?

If you lost it, there is one available on Canon's website here:

There are several ways to change your shutter speed. Since you are new to this, you may want to do it in Shutter Speed Priority Mode (Tv). This will allow you to choose the shutter speed, while the camera adjusts for the light gain or light loss. More info can be found on page 70 of your camera manual.
