You can adjust the shutter speed in either shutter priority mode (S) or manual mode (M) [along with aperture]. The manual explains how to do that in both modes. See page 69 and 71. If you don't have a manual you can view the PDF version below.

Whenever I have a question/problem such as yours, I read the user's guide (aka %26quot;the manual%26quot;).

It is amazing just how much I always learn from that.

If that doesn't help (or if I'm interested in a product I don't own), I check the manufacturer's website.

They have descriptions and specs for their gadgets, often have user forums, and the decent manufacturers all let you download the manuals in electronic form (so losing the book is no longer a problem).

99% of the time that does the trick.
You can set the shutter speed to a maximum of 30%26quot; (seconds) in both M and S modes. If you want longer, you'll need to set B (bulb) available in manual mode only. To operate bulb mode you keep the shutter open as long as it takes for the exposure. Although its possible to do this by holding down the button, you'll cause the camera to move which will spoil the image (and your finger will get tired, lol!), so bulb exposures are usually done with a remote which can 'lock' the shutter open.

Other answers have already posted the page you need to look at in your manual to set the shutter speed, but it involved turning the thumbwheel until the shutter speed you want is displayed.
