Take a deep breath. Find a comfortable chair. Now sit down and begin READING %26amp; STUDYING the Owner's Manual for your camera. That is the only way to learn to actually use your new camera. Taking a couple of photography classes is highly recommended.

Here are some books that will also help you:

%26quot;Understanding Exposure%26quot; %26amp; %26quot;Understanding Shutter Speed%26quot;, both by Bryan Peterson.

%26quot;David Busch's Guide To the Nikon D60%26quot; by David Busch.

Ronnie, you have to actually study your camera and photography just as you study math and chemistry and history. If you fail to study then you fail. You have to study and learn about light and composition and ISO and f-stops and shutter speeds and then practice using what you've learned to develop the skill needed to make the pictures you want to make. %26quot;Pictures are not taken, they are made.%26quot; Ansel Adams.

A digital camera is not magical. Its just a sophisticated dumb box like every camera ever made.

Your owner's manual has all the details. If you don't have one, check with Nikon on their site for a .pdf format download of the manual.
Well, you're battling yourself by these assumptions - turning up the ISO will allow you to use faster shutter speeds, but turning up the shutter speed in a dim room will result in an underexposed image if the aperture is maxed out. Best thing to do is try to use a tripod.

Turn the dial on the top right of the camera to %26quot;S%26quot;. Then rotate the thumb wheel left or right to alter the shutter speed.

I'm assuming that using a flash is out of the question? Sounds like you want to use ambient light only?
Physically pick up the manual that came with the camera. Physically READ the sections that tell all about how to set shutter speeds and apertures and ISO and all that... and what they mean. Physically take your camera and practice what you have read.

It is not rocket science, but it does require a degree of effort to help yourself learn.

Maybe someday they will invent your perfect camera that will read your mind and do what you want with no physical intervention or effort to learn on your part.
