i really want to do so some light painting, and i cant figure out how to change the shutter speed to a lower speed.

You forgot to mention which actual Sony model you have. But, if it's a point %26amp; shoot camera, your options are very limited...though there should be a scene mode available for longer exposures (e.g Fireworks).
Or if you have an H model Sony, you can easily select your shutter speed and/or aperture. A simple read of your Manual will show you how to change your settings.
